I’m not mad, Steve, but I have to say I agree with some of what Dan Padolsky said. To have everything in the packaging be a red herring (complete with “solves” for them) was a bit overwhelming. I mean I understand the need for red herrings, but all of the packaging? Yikes.

Also, I hide Geocaches. When no one finds them, it does make me kind of bummed. :/ So I make sure that if I do make one that’s really hard to find, I supply enough clues that eventually, with hard work, someone can find the cache.

If you do another hunt, I’d definitely be down with giving it a go. The Silver Key just flew over my head, I guess.

Okay, you have a great mind. The explanation is just fantastic. You really did a great job in putting this hunt together. That being said, I would have to say that you really overdid it on the red herrings. I understand a couple of them, but all of the packaging? That to me is overkill. Particularly when the prize is $1000 and some change. Didn’t you say you were a fan of Masquerade, the original armchair treasure hunt? I don’t recall that hunt having so many red herrings. But really who am I to criticize? I just wish someone had solved your hunt because then I would have felt it was doable, and I just didn’t do it. This way feels like it was too difficult for too little. Half the fun for the creator, at least in my opinion as a fellow treasure hunt creator, is the hunters finding it. Then I feel like I have succeeded–I have made a hunt difficult enough to give the people some entertainment, but not too hard to have completely frustrated them. When it’s too hard, and again this is how I have felt in the past because I have done this, then it feels like I have failed. I would never have so many red herrings. I do understand it’s a crapshoot as to what is too difficult and what is just difficult; that’s why I always run my ideas by my wife, lol. If she is utterly perplexed, then I know I have to make some changes. I think you need a new sounding board, lol. I’m sure, though, you’re next hunt will be better. Live and learn, right? My first one was a disaster–my second one much much better. I look forward to your next one. Good luck.
